SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS

Since the March meeting our SIGs have received details of the Minor Business Enhancements (MBEs) their votes selected for Q2 2002, and a new listing of MBEs for Q4 2002 to be voted on. To support our newly formed Reporting Special Interest Group (RSIG) we have made changes to the Members Club web site, including an RSIG navigation button in the header and included a web page for their use.

It had been the intent to hold back to back SIG group meetings during the course of the June 2002 meeting, the Sage presentation and subsequent discussion on the Way Ahead took longer than expected and we cut the first session. The idea is a good one and should enable attendees to attend more than one SIG meeting during the course of the day, we will attempt this again.

Sage provided support at each of the SIG meetings

Distribution Special Interest Group (DSIG) - was host to the SOP/POP Awareness Day in May, and some time was taken up discussing the outcome of this session already reported. There were some questions raised my members, including requests for enhancements. These were dealt with by the Sage representative, and have been included in the online Q & A report.

Finance Special Interest Group (FSIG) - from the list of topics suggested at the March meeting, the subject of Archiving was selected (there is a lot of information in the FAQ pages of the Members Club web site on this subject. - Ed.). The points being highlighted were the improvements in system performance that can be gained by having a quality archiving procedure in place. Such a process does not lead to a loss of information as some believe, its all down to methods adopted and the control factors employed.

FSIG at their August meeting will be looking at G/L Account Structures with Gordon Hancock of UHB showing how they manage their structures - SES have been asked to provide a system, and Gordon will be using his own data. On the subject of G/L FSIG will be hosting an Awareness day in October covering both G/L and G/L Reports.

Manufacturing Special Interest Group (MSIG) - discussion took place around some questions previously submitted by W.Lucy & Co. details of the questions and the responses will be found in both the Members Club Discussion Forum, and the online Q & A report for the meeting. Discussion also took place regarding the SES support for the Manufacturing Suite or lack of it as the case may be. The suggestion was made that where enhancements are required, these should be submitted via the reseller channel, an SES Log No obtained and details reported back to MSIG. The MSIG secretary could circulate this to MSIG members who could throw support behind the request at the time of MBE or Road Map discussion.

Reporting Special Interest Group (RSIG) wpe1.gif (1898 bytes)- the initial meeting of this group got off to a good start. One of the first tasks was to establish the tools that members actually used. Action is being taken to find out from members the problems they have with the tools they use, and to address this by either promoting awareness sessions or product enhancements.

The group have asked Business Objects to do a live demonstration with SES data at their next meeting, and have asked ISTUG to run an Awareness Day on the SES Report Writer. This request is currently being evaluated and a possible presenter found to cover the session - likely to be May 2003. Everyone has a reporting issue of some sort, maybe its simply getting a report, or maybe its obtaining better information from the SES Data Files. Whatever the tools you use, you need to be a member of this group.
