The Bar-Time © System is aimed at providing a simple method of data capture.Bar-Time Ò comprises the following modules:-Time & Attendance Material Tracking Stock Taking WIP Tracking Job costing |
All modules are either standalone or fully integrated to Sage CS/3. Material movement and operator activity is tracked using bar code scanners linked to hand-held devices. These devices can either be static or fully mobile |
Operating Environment The system uses both static and Radio Frequency (RF) mobile hand held terminals with attached bar code scanners. Both are specially ruggedized for industrial environments. Static hand-held terminals are usually used for Time and Attendance recording. The system automatically time stamps all events. Fully mobile units are used for recording material movements (e.g. stock taking, inter bin movements, and goods received or dispatched). |
The system can either be standalone or fully integrated with Sage’s CS/3 system. Both fixed and mobile units connect to a PC running Windows NT and for those who wish to integrate to Sage CS/3 this machine is networked to the main system to allow real-time updating. |
Time & Attendance Module The system is designed to allow for a wide choice of different shift patterns and overtime schemes. The system uses a radio clock to maintain accurate clock on/off times. Employees use the same bar code scanners as they would use for the Work-In-Progress module, described below. As a result, the "Clock On/Off" time starts and finishes at the place of work. This alleviates a common problem with traditional Time and Attendance systems, which rely on units fixed to walls. This leads to a "bunching" effect as employees either wait to clock on or off and reduces their effective working day. |
The system also provides many controls and "user defined tolerances" which control the accumulation of time into Basic or Overtime. Standard holiday time is also recognised. The system automatically updates the Sage CS/3 payroll Time Sheet Entry program. The data can be checked before posting to the payroll module in the usual way. Other payrolls can be provided with flat ASCII data. In addition to recording whether a person is clocked in or out, the system can also keep a trace of whether a person is in the building (ie One of the ten statuses). At any instant the system can be interrogated to find out who is in the building. |

Work-In-Progress (WIP) The bar code scanner and the hand held unit drive the WIP module of Sage CS/3 and capture both quantities and operation times for the works orders in progress. The system checks whether the works order number and operation number are both valid. If this is the case, quantities are entered through the key pad. |
All output from the system is via the Sage CS/3 WIP module. Documentation from the "Shop Floor Documentation" option is bar coded as required including Material Requisition Cards, Operation Detail Cards and Job Cards. The production supervisor is able to interrogate, in real time, the activities of all operators, the jobs they are on and the duration of the operation. |
Material Movements Typical material movements are In/Out of warehouse, inter bin, and inter warehouse. Other material movements can also be recorded. These In/Out movements are recorded by bar coding both Purchase Orders and Sales Orders. The system generates either a GRN or Despatch Note, the latter allowing for despatch confirmation quantities. For inter bin or inter warehouse, the items are bar code read, quantities in put together with the destination bin. If batch control is in operation, the batch number is also entered. |
Stock Taking Valid stock codes, batch number, bin locations, and quantities are available on-line on the hand held unit. This can then be updated with bar-coded input together with quantities. This operation is a simple method of collecting quantities against stock items. Batch details can also be entered if batch control is being used. |

Job Costing The system is able to identify individual jobs. Operators are assigned to jobs and the system automatically records their time spent on the job and parts used. Each operator has a bar-coded label and scans themselves to clock on/off a job. The job number is entered and validated. As parts are used, these are also scanned and assigned to the job.
The system automatically accumulates times and parts until the job is complete, suspended or aborted and a completion code is assigned to the job. Where unit costs are available, these are also accumulated against the job and reported. |
Real-Time updates to Sage CS/3 are made over the Ethernet.
